The Story

The Barkantile started with this little girl right here, sweet JuJu Pearl. In December of 2024, our founder, Candace, was out with her mom and a friend when a little beagle pup came up to her out of nowhere. Being the dog lover she is, Candace sat down to pet the pupper, when she crawled up into her lap and snuggled right in. She knew this pup had to have a home. Turns out, she did. And was happily reunited with her family.

And while that could have been the end to a happy story, that snuggle sparked a fire in Candace that she NEEDED her very first puppy. And just THREE days later (Pearl Harbor Day), Candace and JuJu Pearl met for the very first time. They have been inseparable ever since. And on January 12, 2025 the Barkantile was born.

The Barkantile is all about dogs (like JuJu Pearl) and the people who adore them. Our name is a playful twist on the traditional mercantile: think the charm of an old general store, but reimagined with bright colors, modern flair, and jars full of dog treats instead of penny candy!

We offer a thoughtfully curated collection of dog-themed home décor, gifts, treats, toys, and unique apparel for both pups and their people. You won’t find food, crates, or beds here. We’re not your typical pet store. Instead, we focus on fun, stylish, and meaningful items that celebrate the bond between humans and their dogs.

Supporting small businesses is at the heart of what we do. All of our treats are sourced right here in the U.S. from small-batch dog bakeries, many of which give back to shelters and nonprofits. The few items we source internationally are fair trade, supporting women and children with employment and opportunities to support their families. We're deeply intentional with our sourcing because it matters to us, and to our customers.

But The Barkantile is more than a shop. We strive to be a community social hub. We connect pet lovers with trusted local services like grooming, daycare, and training, while working to support as many local nonprofits and shelters as possible. Our goal? To make a big impact in the pet community, one wag at a time. Will you and your doggo join us?
